Ice stands at 5'4 and has long blonde hair and green eyes and she’s extremely pale. Although it may not be fairly obvious she her heritage is 100% Irish. She was born in New York City, but both her parents and her grandfather come from Galway. Most of the time her hair is pulled back away from her face or braided to fall down her back. She can be seen most often sporting a pair of pants and a button down shirt along with her bowler cap.

Most people view Ice as emotionless because she’s perfected the art of keeping her feelings and thoughts hidden from others. Although a smile is usually present on her face and she has a very friendly nature, that’s more of an act then anything else. Her mother passed away when she was younger and her father left town forcing her and her brother to grow up quickly. Where her brother has angry outbursts, she is usually cool in the face of any adversary. It’s what helped earn her, her nickname as well as her position as leader of the Bronx newsies.

Ice is loyal to people who earn it, but it’s hard for her to respect many people because she’s been let down so much in the past. She finds it easier to shut off her emotions and not get attached to the people around her. She does have a soft spot for the young ones though and tends to keep a close eye on them at all times. She longs to leave the city and search for her father and see what the rest of the world looks like.

Ice was born in the Bronx to Matthew and Penelope Riley. Her grandfather Griffin Riley owns The Flowing Tide pub in the Bronx. She spent a lot of her childhood playing in the kitchen there. Her brother Deven is two years younger then she is and they are extremely close. When her mother passed away from influenza that part of their relationship began to crumble. Her father left shortly after, not being able to handle raising two children once he lost the love of his life. He went west and left them in the care of their grandfather. Although Griffin tried his best, Brogan withdrew into herself and Deven was prone to outbursts.

Eventually he couldn’t afford to take care of them and they had to earn a living on their own. He was always there for them with a roof over their head and hot meal but he couldn’t handle the day to day expenses as well. Deven got a job working at the docks and Brogan moved into the Bronx lodging house. Shortly after the move she earned the nickname Ice and worked her way up through the ranks of the newsies until eventually she became leader of the house. People respected her because she wasn’t quick to jump to conclusions and let her anger get the best of her. She was one of the most rational people in the borough. Even though she loves the city, part of her is itching to leave and strike out on her own looking for her father.
